Tick Tock Tale: A Disney Short

I had the pleasure of seeing a never-before released Disney short called Tick Tock Tale. Disney animator Bill Perkins stopped by my university today and showed a full house the clip! Here's a sneak peek:

The story follows a small clock who gets teased by the other clocks because of his funny chime. But when a thief comes into the clock shop and steals his friends, the little clock runs after the thief, and his funny chime calls the police over, saving the day. However, the thief steps on the little clock to quiet him, breaking him in the process. The next day, the shop owner throws the little clock away. The big clocks, not forgetting what the little clock had done the night before, take the clock out of the trash and place him by a sign that reads, "No repair is too small".

The owner of the shop repairs the little clock, and he is welcomed back into the clock shop by all his friends. It was a great short and I'm so glad I had the opportunity to see it!

My First Trip Report!

Hi everyone! I was lucky enough to go home for President's Day weekend... so I went to Disneyland! This is my first trip report so please bear with me.

Saturday, February 19th

Goodbye, Celebrate! Hello, Let the Memories Begin!

Brianna and I decided to get fastpasses for World of Color! DCA is mostly decorated construction walls at the moment, because of all the new attractions coming this summer.

New mural being constructed on the archway of "The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel's Undersea Adventure". Ever wondered what happened to King Triton?

After telling the construction guys to hurry up, and after a disappointing Midway Mania game (well below my normal score), we headed across the esplanade to catch the Mardi Gras Weekend. All of the "great eight" (minus Daisy) were in their Mardi Gras finest! I especially loved Goofy's disco ball outfit.

Prince Naveen and Louis joined Princess Tiana for a street show! They basically did the Showboat Jubilee from Christmas 2009, and just cut out Dr. Facilier's part.

One thing that you must know about me is that I love meet and greets with all the different characters! So I was definitely in for a surprise when Pinocchio, Geppetto, Gideon, and Foulfellow all showed up in Town Square!

These guys were absolutely hilarious! They were poking each other with Gideon's cane, jumping in front of each other (and me) when pictures were being taken. When Gideon signed my autograph book, he only put one letter on each page! That mischievous cat. I asked the group where Jiminy Cricket was, and Foulfellow and Gideon both proceeded to stomp on an invisible Jiminy. They were also running around and picking the flowers from the planters. Brianna took most of the pictures because I was standing there laughing the whole time. I'll link them once she posts them on her blog.

We also headed to DCA to watch the Pixar Pop-up Parade featuring the Incredibles.

My favorite part of the show was actually at the end, when the guy riding the huge bike said "Go, go drum bike!" and then started pedaling. I'm pretty sure I was the only one who got the joke.

In the evening, Brianna and I went back to DCA for more fun! We watched the always breath-taking World of Color, and ended our wonderful Disney day with Turtle Talk with Crush. The host of TTWC gives you suggestions of questions to ask Crush, such as "What's your favorite color?" and "What is the meaning of life?" I've never actually heard someone ask Crush what the meaning of life is... so I did! His response? "I'm a dudist. I surf, therefore I am". He then proceeded to ask me what my meaning of life was, so I responded,

"I'm a Disneyland-ist. I go to Disneyland, therefore I am".

A true statement, my friends.

Toy Story 3

If you haven't seen Toy Story 3, GO. WATCH IT. NOW.

There were some great easter eggs, especially Totoro's cameo in the film! I just wanted to know if he speaks 日本語 (Japanese) or English. Also, the closet scene with Ken and Barbie was hilarious! My other favorite scene was the beginning scene; DEATH BY MONKEYS! My favorite character was Mr. Pricklepants. Sadly, he didn't get much screentime in the movie. Hopefully, they'll make some Pixar shorts with Mr. Pricklepants and the rest of Bonnie's toys. Or, maybe they'll make a Toy Story 4!

The whole theater was gasping, laughing, and crying throughout the whole movie. It was truly an amazing movie to watch! A big "thanks" to the amazing team at Pixar for creating this masterpiece!

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

I had heard some pretty bad things about Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, so I wasn't expecting anything amazing. However, I enjoyed this movie. It's a bit cheesy and predictable, but it's got some great action scenes, an amazing score (hello surprise Alanis Morisette song!), and a shirtless Jake Gyllenhaal. What more could I ask for?

The plot revolves around an Aladdin-esque boy named Dastan, who is adopted by the King of Persia. He and his brothers lead an attack on the city of Alamut, because they have been smuggling weapons to Persia's enemies. During this first fight scene, you get to see Dastan's awesome-ness. He pole vaults and bungee jumps all over the castle, and he looks extremely attractive while doing it. There are some slow-motion scenes as well (throughout the whole movie) and I think that is because they based this movie off of a video game, where slow motion scenes are prevalent. While in combat, Dastan defeats an enemy guard and takes his dagger. Eventually, the kingdom is overthrown by Persia. During the celebration, Dastan gives his father a robe as a gift, which turns out to be poisoned and kills the King. Dastan is immeadiately attacked so he and Princess Tamina (the Princess of Alamut) escape together. We then get a taste of why the dagger he acquired is so important.

Tamina is very pushy and aggressive during the first half of the film, and tries to kill Dastan and flee with the dagger multiple times. After what seemed like forever, Tamina finally trusts Dastan and they set off to return the dagger back to its sanctuary, where it will be safely hidden. Along the way, they view an ostrich race, Tamina joins the harem for an afternoon, and Dastan befriends a group of outlaws who become very helpful later on in the film. Oh, and a lot of people die. Just when you think "YES! So-and-so knows the truth now! Everything is right in the world!" so-and-so goes and gets shot with poison darts, or one of those claw-whip things, or killed by the villian who must not be named. (It's not Voldemort -- although that would've been an interesting plot twist...)

After some good action scenes, everything becomes *serious* and choices must be made. As the guardian of the dagger, Tamina must decide whether she can handle the sacrifices required for the dagger's safety, while Dastan must face a villian in his own family while trying to reverse the damage that has been done to his name. I won't tell you the whole ending... but I'll say that some parts of the ending were surprising!

The ending's a cliffhanger... literally!

A few things that annoyed me: *spoilers included*
1. The ugly Papyrus font (yes Disney, I noticed)
2. The bazillion almost-kisses
3. When what was happening was over-explained and shoved in my face (voice over and text?!), OR I didn't understand what just happened.
4. The fact that Tamina doesn't remember anything at the end of the movie. Seriously? They were in love with each other and then she forgets everything! The hopeless romantic in me weeps.
5. That Jake Gyllenhaal had his shirt on for the majority of the movie.

Bonus Features (Better than a DVD!):
Watch this. Can I just say that Gemma is adorable and gorgeous? Some girls just get it all.

Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland

Now, the only experience I have with Alice in Wonderland is through the theme parks, AKA following around the Alice and Mad Hatter characters at Disneyland. Still, I was very excited to go see Tim Burton's new Alice in Wonderland film in 3D. It didn't disappoint.

*spoilers ahead*

The movie starts off with Alice Kingsleigh attending her own engagement party to Hamish Ascot. Alice is feeling very uneasy about the whole situation, when she suddenly spies the white rabbit running through the bushes. After Hamish proposes, Alice says she "needs a moment" and takes off after the white rabbit, falling down, down, down (just like the attraction at Disneyland!) to Underland. There, she is greeted by a variety of characters, claiming her to be THE Alice who visited Underland years ago. Throughout the course of the film, we learn the Queen of Hearts (who has a freakishly large head) has taken over Underland, and Alice is to kill the QoH's guardian, the Jabberwocky. Alice does not recall ever visiting Underland before, and she tries to wake herself up out of her dream because she doesn't want to kill anything, especially a towering dragon creature. Once she realizes she's stuck in Underland, a Bandersnatch comes and attacks her. She then meets the Cheshire cat who helps her find the Mad Hatter. By a series of events (I don't want to give the whole thing away...) Alice meets the White Queen -- Anne, those princess lessons with Grandmere really paid off! -- who finally gets her back to a normal size and wants her to slay the Jabberwocky. Alice is still not buying it though. She goes to contemplate on the gazebo (where she just got proposed to?!) and she finds Abselom, the smoking catepillar. Earlier in the movie, Abselom says that Alice is "hardly Alice", leading Alice and the other animals to believe that she is indeed not the correct Alice to kill the Jabberwocky. But, as he is about to turn into a butterfly, he reminds Alice of how she called Underland "Wonderland" and all of her memories of Underland come back to her. With this new knowledge, Alice is ready to kill the Jabberwocky.

But I won't tell you if she does or not! *insert evil laugh here*

Johnny Depp is standout in his role as the Mad Hatter, and although he says Alice and the MH have a brother and sister relationship, their chemistry seemed a little more... intense in the movie. At the end of the movie, I seriously expected him to appear on Alice's ship to whisk her away. Another thing I noticed about Johnny is that he pulled out every accent he's used for the MH's different personalities. I heard Captain Jack, J.M. Barrie and Roux throughout the movie. All the other actors were great as well, but to heck with them! All I care about is Johnny... heh.

If you're planning on seeing the movie, I highly recommend watching it in 3D. It was amazing! It made me so much more excited for all the other 3D movies coming out. Plus, you get to watch some awesome 3D previews (like Toy Story 3!). Now, I'm off to practice the Futterwacken!

Meet the Robinsons

I miss the days of Beauty and the Beast and Pocahontas. The hand drawn animation was amazing, not to mention the music. THE MUSIC! But that's for a later post. I've noticed now that all of Disney Animation's stuff is computer generated (and often in 3D). Thank goodness for The Princess and the Frog! I really can't wait!

/ramble

Alright, back to the movie: Meet the Robinsons! The movie starts off with a lady leaving her baby in front of the doorstep of an orphange. This baby turns out to be Lewis, a boy with huge hair and a huge brain to match. After 124 failed adoption interviews (next time, lay off the peanut butter), Lewis gets the smart idea that his mother is the only person who will want him, so he decides to make a "Memory Scanner" to try and recall her face from his little baby memory. Okay hold on. All you want to do is see her face? How about a phone number? Address? ANYTHING? I expect more from a boy genius.

So Lewis beings to create the Memory Scanner. He keeps his roommate Goob up all night making this invention *this is important* and he finally finishes and scurries on over to the science fair to show of his creation, while Goob goes to play his all important baseball game. In a nutshell: Lewis blows up the gymnasium, Goob falls asleep (roomies can do that to you) during the big game. Cut to Lewis sulking on the rooftop of the orphange. There he meets Wilbur Robinson, who is pretending to be a pidgeon for some unknown reason. Wilbur gets all up in Lewis face and is like "OMG HI! I'm from the future!" and then throws Lewis off the rooftop. No really, he does. Luckily, Lewis falls onto the invisible time machine that Wilbur uses to transport him to 2037 (aka **the future**). Lewis then explains to him that the evil Bowler Hat Guy stole the Robinson's OTHER time machine and he wants Lewis to help get it back.

Wilbur takes Lewis to his house, where Lewis meets the whole Robinson clan, except for Cornelius, who is on a business trip. My favorite character has to be Frannie and her Mafia frogs (video below). First it was the New York pidgeons in Bolt, and now these guys? I seriously can't get enough. Oh, and this scene (yes, I'm too lazy to embed) is amazing.

So after the whole crazy family scene it gets complicated. Lewis wants to use the time machine to see his real mother, Wilbur wants Lewis to help him get the other time machine, Bowler Hat Guy wants to make Lewis's life miserable, and the Robinson family--not knowing Lewis is from the future--wants to adopt Lewis into their family. And I'm not gonna tell you the rest. Oh, c'mon! Don't get mad. I gave you the freaking link to the video! Geez.

Okay, fine. I'll give you one spoiler. Bowler Hat Guy turns out to be none other than... GOOB! Yes, cute widdle Goob. Now, I just don't understand how this complete change in appearance takes place. Would you care to explain, Disney Animation Studios? (Like they'll ever read this.) BHG is just looks so... unfortunate. And he has a unicorn binder! HAHAHAHAHA.

Anyunicorns, I liked Meet the Robinsons. There were parts of the storyline where I almost gave up, but the crazy characters and well-placed jokes make up for it. Not as amazing as Bolt, but what can I say? I'm a dog person.

Bonus Features (better than a DVD!):

So, I was gonna end my wonderful blog post there. However, I found a video of the very touching end of the movie which happens to feature the song "Little Wonders" by Rob Thomas. And Alanna loves Rob Thomas. And I don't think she's gonna watch the movie (which I so graciously provided for her in the first video). So this is pretty much for Alanna... and anyone else who wants to see the end of Meet the Robinsons.

10 bucks says Alanna's crying. Alright, pay up!

Here's a list of some things I want to do while I'm working and/or playing at Disneyland. I need a place to keep track of all these! Some are possible, most are not. But you better believe I'll try to accomplish every single thing!

x 1. Land a role in the show! (Become a Cast Member)

Almost there! Just need to go on the Main Street Vehicles and shoot things in the Shootin' Exposition.

Spotlight: One Mad Carousel Ride!

Wow. Haven't been here in quite a while! I doubled up on my work schedule and have been playing at Disneyland all day, so I haven't had time for posting (or the internet for that matter)! Anyways, I have a few movie posts in the making, so look out for those!

On to the spotlight, which is very dear to my heart:

The Mad Hatter!

I originally asked the Mad Hatter to go on Mad Tea Party with me, but the carousel is just as nice. I'm surprised I was allowed to even do this! Anyways, Alanna (who photoshopped this for me!) thinks I need to preserve the conversation we had on the carousel. So I'm gonna post what I can remember. It was pretty hilarious!

Alice: Mad Hatter, what are you going to name your horse?

Mad Hatter: I don't want to place him into a category.

A: (to me) Well then, what are you going to name your horse?

Me: uh... I have no idea.

A: Well he looks rather angry. Maybe it's because of the haircut you gave him? (Ed. note: please take a look at how incredibly weird my horse looks)

MH: That looks like something you would do, Alice.

Me: Well, the Mad Hatter would be riding this horse, if I had picked the other one. He let me choose.

A: He let you choose? He never lets me decide ANYTHING!

MH: Well, you screw things up. Here... I'll let you decide something: ONE LUMP OR TWO? (Ed. note: yes, he's referencing BATB. He belted that so loud...)

A: I'll take three!

Me: So Alice, what did you name your horse?

A: (thinks for a minute) Petunia!

MH: Well in that case, I'll name mine... Rupert! Although that name is a little flamboyant, even for me.

A: Splendid! And (turning to me) we'll name yours... Travis!

MH: Oh yes! He looks like a Travis.

Me: Travis is an angry name?

A: Of course.

Disney Geekout Time:
While looking for online videos of the Mad Hatter, I realized that there is a whole group of crazy fans who have taken a liking to the Mad Hatter and Alice. They've even named them all. The one I know is "Sweet Hatter" (and he really is sweet!). Oh, and these kids have their own website.

Yes, that really is me in the picture. You're just gonna have to trust me on this one.

Spotlight: I Can't Draw

Ah, the Animation Academy. One of the few places where you can sit in an amazing (air-conditioned!!!) room just stuffed with Disney trinkets. Usually, I saunter on down to the second row, last seat (yes, I'm a regular) and then once the drawing lesson is over, I recycle my horrible drawing and ask to keep the really amazing perfectly drawn sketch that our "teacher" has created. My friend and I happened to get Jack Skellington, and here is the final product:

But the real spotlight is what the "teacher's assistant" was drawing during class:

Yeah, that's just doodling to her. Wow. (Sorry about the horrible picture quality...) Oh, and she wasn't done either! I bet the final product looked even cooler...

Hannah Montana The Movie

Disclaimer: I took my 12 year old sister to the dollar theater to watch this movie. That is my excuse. Hey, I have to watch every Disney movie... right?

Yeah, so it's a pretty predictable movie. After Miley ruins Lilly's (her *bestie*) sweet sixteen, and randomly gets into a fight with Tyra Banks (note to Tyra: YOU CAN DO BETTER), her dad sends her off to her home state of Tennessee for a little soul searching. After she starts crushing on Travis, the farm boy, she starts to change her ways from over the top superstar back to down to earth (HA!) Miley Stewart. Moral of the story: when you fall in love with a boy, you must become the person they want you to be. No, I'm just kidding. But you do have to give... I'll stop. (Family friendly, family friendly, family friendly...) Alright, cut to a video clip time. This song was really the only one I enjoyed. The Climb is okay and whatever song Taylor Swift (note to Taylor: YOU CAN DO BETTER) sings is good as well.

Anyways, once the farmboy (and her family) teach her the importance of life or whatever, Miley decides she is going to throw a big fundraising concert to save her teeny-tiny city from the hands of the industrial revolution. Seriously, it's like a big deal. Oh, and all this time she's got a fat British guy following her, trying to figure out her secret (ya know, she's like, two people?!) so he can sell the story to the tabloids. In the end, Miley ends up telling the whole town that she is *OMGZ HANNAH MONTANA*. After a sad little song (no, I'm crying, like totally), a girl who's been stalking Miley through the whole movie goes "But you can be hannah too!" And so the whole town agrees to keep her secret. THE WHOLE TOWN. Fo realz?! I would haul butt to the nearest phone and sell that crap. They really got some award winning guys to write this stuff (like I can talk)...

Regardless of what I think about Miley/Hannah/Wombat, the theater was actually pretty full. I know, right? And my little sister enjoyed it, but to her credit, she thought the movie was slightly crazy. Oh, and the verdict by four random teenagers walking out of the movie with us? "Well, like, this one was better than that, like, Zac Efron movie. OMG the guy was so much hotter!" Wow. Just... wow.

To reclaim some dignity (mine's already gone), watch this. I love Joel McHale.

First off, I just want to say that my comments were broken and I didn't even know it! So, sorry if you tried to post comments and it didn't work... Thanks Emma for letting me know. :] Okay, back to the movies:

Oh Disney Animation Studios, why did I doubt you so? I thought that Bolt was not going to be amazing... I thought it was going to be a flop. I thought the inclusion of Miley Cyrus alone would sink it straight to the bottom. Boy, was I wrong.

I absolutely loved this movie.

The movie starts out with Penny, played by Miley Cyrus, getting a frantic call from her dad. OH NOEZ! He's been kidnapped! Luckily, he's a smart cookie and equipped her dog, Bolt, with some super-abilities. Penny and Bolt then go to rescue her dad but get caught by Dr. Calico (AKA the green-eyed man) and his henchman. Bolt uses his superpowers to save the day, and right as Bolt and Penny are about to drive off into the victorious sunset... we learn the whole action movie is *gasp* A MOVIE SET. But, (plot twist) Bolt thinks it's real! After a quick chat with head honchos from the network, the director realizes Bolt can't save the day every single show. So, in the next episode, Penny is "captured" by Dr. Calico... and the scene ends with a cliffhanger. Bolt, thinking Penny is really in danger, freaks out big time and flees the set, looking to rescue her from the green-eyed man.

While running off the set, Bolt somehow manages to get knocked unconscious into a box getting shipped to New York (yes, I've been in a New York mood lately...). He wakes up in NYC, still trying to rescue Penny, and realizes that his powers don't work. He blames the styrofoam.(obviously.) Bolt runs into the coolest pidgeons EVER looking for "the green-eyed man" and his cat. The pidgeons then lead him to Mittens, a sassy New Yorker. After Bolt convinces (AKA holds her over the Long Island Expressway) Mittens to travel with him, they go on a cross-country adventure back to Hollywood. Along the way, they pick up a hamster named Rhino. Rhino loves Bolt like a preteen loves Edward Cullen, and he also thinks Bolt has real superpowers. However, Mittens finally realizes that Bolt is an actor, and clues him into reality. Once everyone gets over themselves, they have a lovey-dovey trip back to hollywood.

Bolt finally gets back to Hollywood (with a cute song AND montage OMG) but... Penny has already replaced Bolt with another dog! Or so he thinks. But Mittens sees that Penny is heartbroken and makes Bolt go back and see Penny. Just as Penny's scene is about to end and happy reunions will begin, the replacement Bolt *coughamateurcough* knocks over a fiery torch and the whole set is aflame. The real Bolt comes to the rescue... and well, you can see the rest for yourselves.

I thought this movie was really great, and my mom and sister loved it too! The best part: Miley Cyrus's character is only in half the movie! Because really, my ears were bleeding.

Spotlight: The Electrical Parade!

Part 2

Okay, so I had the most AMAZING time at Disneyland yesterday! Brianna, Karina, & I enjoyed a lovely Electrical parade, among other things. Here's a play-by-play:

Park in Cast Member lot, go on snazzy shuttle to the park!

Walk into DCA, small talk with the ticket-ticker who now knows me. (Don't judge me.)

Walk out and get a cool hand stamp that says "Ladybug" (I'm getting detailed here!)

Check hours at place of work.

Walk into Disneyland.

Go on Splash Mountain as a single rider because Brianna is running late and it's FREAKING HOT.

Walk around with Brianna, "You know Disney's crowded when going on the Pinocchio attraction sounds like a good idea."

Go back into DCA. Pin shop with Brianna. (For the record, I do NOT collect pins. I would waste too much money.)

Get a "Three Berries and a Banana" drink at Schmoozies. It's pretty good.

Go to the Animation Pavillion and watch the rotation of movie clips/songs. Sing along really loud.

Have broccoli cheddar soup at the Pacific Wharf Cafe, which is the only place you should buy overpriced Disney food.

Karina finally arrives!

I love the snails! and turtles! and bumblebees! I flag each and every one down, they all come up to say hello. One snail turned around and shook it's bum at me.

We respond to Alice's "How are you?" and she comments on our manners.

Brianna offers her foot to (Cinderella's) Prince Charming, he holds the shoe out. It doesn't fit.

Brianna & I make faces at the step-sisters, they call us ugly.

Try to get Captain Hook to blow a kiss to me. He doesn't. But Peter does.

I make a silly face at Pinnochio, he does it back and motions that my nose is going to grow.

Yell at Pete, "make the dragon invisible!!" Pete laughs at me. But he makes the dragon invisible.

Finish the parade. Final wave count: 40 parade characters.

End the night with Haagen-Dazs hot chocolate. Yum!

If you read all of that, you get a bag of Haagen-Dazs chocolate chip cookies! If you couldn't tell, we had a great time acting like five year olds and watching the parade. And we're all getting together to do it again. :]

Oliver and Company

Maybe it's the New Yorker in me talking, but I absolutely love this movie! I remember seeing the re-release in 1996 when I was a little Disney fan...

Two words: Billy. Joel.

The movie is based on the story Oliver Twist (which I haven't read, so I can't really compare...). Oliver is a small orphaned cat who runs into Dodger (IT'S BILLY JOEL), a street-wise city dog. Oliver follows Dodger to his home, where he lives with a pack of city dogs and their master, Fagin. Fagin owes a huge amount of money to Sykes, who is very big and very scary. When the dogs are out collecting scrap to re-sell, they lose Oliver, who is then rescued by Jenny, a little girl who lives in the very wealthy upper east side of NYC. Oliver loves it there, but Georgette (OMG BETTE MIDLER?!), Jenny's best-in-show poodle, is not. However, Jenny and Oliver bond with a cute little montage which includes my favorite song:

Dodger and the gang think that Oliver's in trouble, so with Georgette's permission they "rescue" a sleeping Oliver and bring him back to their humble abode. Fagin realizes that Oliver is worth big money if he's returned to Jenny, so he makes a ransom note telling Jenny's parents to bring lots of cash if they want their precious kitty back. Unfortunately, only a crying Jenny shows up with her piggy bank. Okay, hold on. A girl under 10 years old is walking around creepy alleyways in NY at who knows what time and had nothing happen to her?! Wow, Disney, you impress me. Back to the story. Fagin's whole "OMG-I'm-gonna-be-rich" plan backfires which leads to chase scene in a subway track and over the freaking brooklyn bridge (again, Disney, WHAT?!) which then leads to Sykes getting run over by a subway. YAYY! Cut to Jenny's *best birthday of my life* party with every (good) character in the movie.

In all seriousness, I really like this movie. And I really like the special features on the DVD. One thing that bugged me was that EVERY video clip about Oliver & Comapny used the "Abs-a-tively Poos-uh-loot-ley" clip and the "If this is torture, chain me to the wall!" clip. Seriously, you've got a whole movie of clips to choose from. However, I loved the scrapbook and the two bonus shorts, "Lend A Paw" (which I have in book form), and "Puss Cafe". No, not THAT type of Puss Cafe...

The best Disney cartoon ever.

Actually, one of my favorite things about this movie is that they got so many interesting people in the cast. When I found out Joey Lawerence was Oliver, the little 90's girl in me swooned and said "BROTHERLY LOVE!!!!!!!" Yes, I'm so cool. Don't judge me. They somehow got Bette Midler to voice Georgette, and BILLY JOEL is Dodger. Can I please take Dodger home? PUHLEEEEZZ?!

But really, this movie is great. It pioneered a whole new generation of Disney movies, and it was one of the first animated movies to get help from a computer. One of my favorite Disney animated musicals.

Spotlight: The New Fantasmic!

I work at Disneyland. Because of that, I get to go to Disneyland whenever I'd like. And so, I've seen most of the Summer Nightastic! shows (just have to watch the Pixie Hollow Enchantment Night Show, and the Electrical Parade). I saw Fantasmic this past Friday, right after work... and it was AMAZING. Now, I recommend seeing it in person if you can, but if not the videos are below. FYI: The new dragon is broken and hasn't been in the show yet. :(

The weekend spotlight is in rememberance of Michael Jackson, who was an avid Disney fan. He loved going to the different theme parks (often bringing family with him), and even got his very own attraction in Disneyland, where Honey I Shrunk the Audience sits today. The Absent-Minded Professor

I picked up The Absent Minded Professor in the children's section of the library, not knowing anything about it. What I learned is that Flubber is a remake.

The Absent Minded Professor is about a chemistry professor named Ned Brainard who invents a type of rubber that defies gravity, gaining more energy as it bounces instead of losing it. However, the explosion that created the "flubber" also knocked him out, causing him to miss his own wedding... for the third time. Professor Brainard is convinced that his new discovery will win him back Betsy (his fiancee), help save Medfield College, and help change the world. However, Alonzo Hawk, a jerk businessman, accidentally sees Professor Brainard flying his Model T and steals his car. This results in Professor Brainard and Betsy teaming up together, taking the car back, and taking a flying flubber-filled adventure to Washington D.C.

If you'd like to see a small clip of the movie, click HERE. Unfortunately, that's the only clip I could find that was related to this movie. It's quite a shame, because the movie is really good! I liked the main actor, Fred MacMurray--who has starred in some other older Disney movies. Also, upon doing some highly advanced research (AKA a 3-second search on Google), I found out that the Medfield fight song is the first song that the Sherman Brothers wrote for Disney! Boy, they've come a long way...

After watching this, I don't know how I'm going to watch the Robin Williams version!

Spotlight: The Little Mermaid Attraction

'Cause it's my blog and I'll post if I want to (poooost if I want to, poooost if I want to...)! Plus, it's summer vacation and I've got time on my hands. There will be a weekday spotlight on Monday (so this one's a day late) and a weekend spotlight on Friday! Let the fun ensue!

This week's spotlight is...

The Little Mermaid Attraction!

I'm so excited for this attraction! Finally, DCA can look Disneyland in the eye and say, "I CAN BE A THEME PARK TOO!" Don't get me wrong--I love DCA. I've spent many days talking to Crush (my absolute favorite attraction), popping balloons in Midway Mania, and filling myself full of free tortillas. Whenever Disneyland is crowded and tourist-packed (see last week's spotlight), my friends and I always go straight on over to DCA and have fun! However, it takes a true Disney fan to overlook DCA's flaws. I'm really excited for the new and improved DCA, but I will always remember the original... *looks thoughtfully into the distance*

What a fun ride! But really, that is one scary Ursula.

Change is good... but I'm gonna get my fill of the DCA I know and love while it's still here!

Princess Protection Program

How, do you ask, did I already watch Princess Protection Program (scheduled to come out this Friday)? Well, Bob Iger himself invited me to a special screening... Okay, Okay. It was on YouTube. Sadly, the video has already been removed and I'm just lucky I got to it in time!

The movie stars Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato, who are best friends *insert girlish squeal here* in real life. Selena Gomez plays Carter, a tomboy from Louisiana who helps her father run a small bait shop. Demi Lovato plays Princess Rosalinda, a princess of the small island Costa Luna. Carter's father is a special agent in the Princess Protection Program, which is a secret program made to protect princesses whose safety is being threatened. Here's the kicker (cause I know you're on the edge of your seats...): Princess Rosalinda will only trust Carter's dad, so she goes to Louisiana and consequently turns Carter's life upside down... and helps her find her "Inner Princess". You can pretty much figure out the plot from there.

Surprisingly, I sat through the whole movie without complaining. The actors actually ACT, which is unheard of in modern DCOM times. Although, I was slightly creeped out that Jamie Chung, the actress who plays Chelsea, is 26! That's pushing it for someone playing a high-schooler. Also, I wonder why they didn't develop the character relationships a bit more. Carter's best friend, Ed, is madly in love with her and he didn't really get his happy ending. Not even a single dance at homecoming! I'm crying, really.

You and every other teenybopper out there can watch Princess Protection Program on June 26th, this Friday, on Disney Channel.

But I don't have to! HAHA!

You've gotta be kidding me! I took these when I went to Disneyland this past Monday. I was so sad the lines were long because my friend from Arizona was with me and she couldn't really do anything. But we did see the fireworks! They were so amazing!

Luckily, I went back to Disneyland today and it seems that the lines and crowds were back to normal. Hopefully, it stays that way...

I. LOVED. UP. LOVED. IT.

Alright, let's try to do this post without hyperventilating...

So this is Disney/Pixar's (or as I accidentally called it, Pixey...) 10th film. It's obvious that UP has a way more adult feel. Actually, even though the movie ended on a happy note, the whole mood was a bit somber. I think as the movie progresses, it gets happier. Right in the beginning you get hit with an emotional montage of Carl's life with his late wife Ellie. Fueled by his desire to fufill his and Ellie's wishes, he sets off on a grand adventure to a far-off land in South America. His sidekick is a wilderness explorer named Russell, an exotic bird named Kevin, and Dug, who is the cutest dog EVER.

Dug is right up there in my favorite-Disney-characters-of-all-time list. I want a dog just like him! He sold the movie for me.

Characters aside, UP has a great plot--and even though it is a bit sad, it is still an amazing film and I think you should watch it! Now the question is... 2D or 3D?

DISNEY GEEKOUT TIME:

In D/P's Ratatouille, as Remy is trying to find food after getting separated from his family, look at the shadow of the dog barking (around 0:51 in this clip). Notice something... familiar? I love how they give us little "easter eggs" and we don't even know it!

The Jungle Book

The Jungle Book was Walt Disney's last movie. Disappointed with the bad reactions of The Sword and the Stone, Walt decided to do most of the work on this movie himself, and it shows! The songs are amazing, the characters are well-developed, and the plot line is great. If you have anything negative to say about The Jungle Book, don't say it here!

Now, let's move on. The Jungle Book is about a small "man-cub" named Mowgli who is found and raised in the deep jungles of India by a pack of wolves. When the wolves find out that Shere Khan, the man-eating tiger, is coming back into the jungle, they make Bagheera the black panther take him to the man-village. Mowgli and Bagheera then set off into an animal-filled adventure made of jazzy songs and rockin' beats. Each animal (or group of animals) that Mowgli meets has a personality for days (and usually a cool song to go with it!). My favorite character though is Baloo. He easily makes my top five Disney character list.

I rented the 40th Anniversary 2-Disc Edition, which is full of special features! The first disc has a deleted character, Rocky the Rhino. I'm actually glad that this character didn't make it into the cut, because he has a really annoying voice, and the character didn't flow well with the vultures. There's 21 minutes of deleted songs--I can see why they were deleted. The demo version of "Bare Necessities" is so bad it's hilarious! I almost fell out of my chair laughing. But the worst song (and I mean THE WORST), is a special little gift from the JoBroHoes. Pop stars ruining classic Disney songs is one of my biggest pet peeves. But after I watched the little informercial for the Disney Wildlife Fund, I felt better. Let's all do our part to help the environment, okay? Okay.

The only deleted song I could find online. It's called "Mighty Hunters" and

that Tony the Tiger-on-steroids voice is Shere Khan singing.

Disc 2 was specifically made for me, and every other Disney-geek out there. You have a choice to go to the "Jungle" or the "Man-Village". The jungle option leads you to a whole bunch of not-very-fun games, but if you choose the man-village option, you get more than an hour of fun goodies for your inner Disney nerd. It's okay, we all have one.

...I think I'm gonna train the animals at the zoo to sing and dance. Anyone else in?

Try getting this song out of your head!

The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad are two very interesting half-hour cartoons. Not one of my favorite Disney creations, but very entertaining. One of the absolute best parts was being able to hear Bing Crosby (of White Christmas fame--one of my favorite non-Disney movies!) narrate The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

Besides Mr. Crosby, the part that really seals the deal is that there are TWO bonus cartoons in the special features section of the DVD. The first cartoon, Susie the Little Blue Coupe, is a wonderful surprise that's only attainable by playing the incredibly easy trivia game found in the special features. The Lonesome Ghosts (video below) is included on the special features, just click and watch!

What this movie brought Disneyland:

Mr. Toad's Wild Ride! My mom's favorite ride in the park. This is a great dark ride, and I think I'll enjoy it more now that I've seen the cartoon. I have always wanted those cute frog lamps that decorate the end of the ride...

The old school Mickey Mouse head really creeps me out! Which makes walking through California Adventure awkward...

The Toy Story 3 teaser trailer has come out!

Other Disney movie projects (shown at the ShoWest Festival) include Beauty and the Beast--re-released in 3D --set to come out on February 12, 2010 and the first two Toy Story movies which will be re-released in 3D on October 2nd, 2009 for a limited 2-week run. Also, I'm expecting Alice in Wonderland to be creepier than ever now that the leaked photo of Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter has been confirmed as correct. Alice In Wonderland will be Disney's first movie released in IMAX 3D.

From what I've read on the Internet (don't judge), Disney's presentation at ShoWest was nothing short of amazing. Well, expect me to be one of billions of people waiting in line to buy tickets. So excited!

PS: What happened to the days of new Disney princesses and VHS tapes? Just asking...

Aladdin

After watching Aladdin for the first time in 10+ years, I had truly forgotten how amazing this story was. With a sharp minded hero and princess that actually rejects men, how could it not be? However, my favorite character had to be the Genie, played by none other than Robin Williams. His constant stream of jokes were enjoyed by myself AND my younger sister. Another part of Aladdin that I enjoyed is the number of other Disney movies that make a surprise appearance. (Can you find Pinnochio, Goofy, and Sebastian?)

Being an animal person, I can't help but adore Abu and Raja. Abu even becomes an elephant to help out his buddy Aladdin! So adorable! Especially when he's trying to eat his bananas elephant-style. I don't really like Jafar and Iago, but you have to admit that Iago is a pretty cute parrot. If you have the DVD, go to the second disc and watch a guided tour of the Genie's lamp with Iago! Hilarious!

I highly reccommend getting the 2-disc DVD to watch Aladdin--the bonus features on each disc are incredible! On disc one, you can hear deleted songs and watch deleted scenes from the movie. In the original plot of the movie, Aladdin was supposed to have a mother. When the mother was cut from the plot, so was the beautiful song, "Proud of your boy" (video below). Disc one doesn't have much else, besides some cringe-worthy music videos from the early 90's (please stop making current pop stars sing Disney songs!!) Disc two has three very fun games where you can take a carpet ride with Aladdin (and Timon from The Lion King), take a tour of Genie's lamp with Iago, or get your fortune told by Jafar. There's also a 20 minute video praising Alan Menken, one of the most AMAZING musical composers ever. Here's proof:

Overall, I'd have to say Aladdin truly earned it's spot as a Disney classic. I'd take that street rat any day...
